The Buwenge Health Camp was a big Success!

ELOIM ministries together with Vitamin Angel, Reach out Uganda Bartimaeus International Mission partnered with Buwenge Hospital to conduct a medical camp at the Buwenge Hospital premises. Buwenge Hospital is located in Buwenge Sub/County, Jinja District, about 112 km from Kampala City.

The camp which started at 10.00 am and ended at 6.00 p.m. gave an opportunity to
residents of Buwenge and surrounding communities to access free quality health
services. Health providers including Rotarians, health workers from Buwenge Hospital, Nutritionists from Kyambogo University, and Opticians from Bartimaeus International Mission were mobilized to provide the services.

Activities that were carried out include.

  • HIV testing and Counseling
  • Maternal health education
  • Nutrition education and mass deworming
  • Rational drug use campaign and assessment

The services were offered under the following categories:

General Clinic/Outpatient Department (OPD), HIV Counseling and Testing, Eye care services, Nutrition and Maternal health.

During our one-day health camp at the Buwenge Health Facility, we were able to Counsel and Test a total number of 67 people (21 Male-46 Female) under the HIV/AIDS tent. All the participants received their results on the very day. Under the Nutrition Education/Maternal Health Training tent a total number of 84 persons (19 Male-65 Female). In the Eye Care clinic, we were able to reach out to 76 persons (14 male-62 Female). These were mostly elderly persons in the nearby communities of Buwenge Central region. Of the 76 persons, 54 received spectacles.

Donations

At the same health camp, we gave to Buwenge Hospital a total number of 20.000 doses of Vitamin A supplements (10.000 Blue-10.000 Red) to boost their Nutrition and pediatric departments. We also gave to the same department 4000 doses of Albendazole deworming tablets. Also, a total number of 12000 condoms (4 cartons) were donated to the HIV/AIDS department of the hospital.

All in all, the health camp would not be a success without support from partners; Buwenge Hospital, Vitamin Angels Uganda, Reach out Uganda, and Red Cross Uganda. Bartimaeus International Mission, the team of Nutritionists from Kyambogo University School of Nutrition, community VHTs, and area Local Council leaders.

Nevertheless, by the end of the day, hundreds of people had received medical attention, maternal health/ Family planning services, optical services, HIV counseling and testing, and general sensitization, all at no cost, thanks to all our partners.
