Dr. Lucy Mulago lectures in the Department of Extension & Innovation Studies. School of Agricultural Sciences Makerere University (2021 to date). A representative on the Board of Directors of employers. She was also Assistant Lecturer in the same Department (2010-2021). Teaching Assistant in the Department of Community Forestry and Extensions, Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation Makerere University (2006-2010).
She is an Extension professional who holds several awards including a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry program at Makerere University (1998-2002), Australian Scholarship by The Australian Organization for Development Corporation to undertake Masters in Agro Forestry at Makerere University then later a PhD in Agricultural and Rural Innovations at the same institute.
Dr. Were is also a professional member of Nature Uganda (Since 2005), The African Policy studies Network (Since 2007), Tropical Biology Association (since 2006, The African Policy studies Network (Since 2007). She is also a distinguished Fellow at the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development Fellowship program (2009-2011), and The Norman Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program for African Women in Science (2007) from Pennsylvanian State University USA.
She has 18 certificated professional qualifications in various disciplines including certificates in advanced Gender research Methodology. A certificate in Open access and scholarly communication, certificates in Monitoring African women in Agriculture and another in Scholarly writing and communication among others. She also has 11 publications and has since managed to publish a book ‘The population structure of drum making tree species in Mpanga Forest Reserve.’
She has wealth of knowledge and workload, Mrs. Lucy has maintained flexibility to make adjustments in her busy work schedule to also share her expertise with ELOI Ministries in different capacities. She strongly believes in embracing a new agenda based on inclusiveness; a commitment to reconnecting the social and the economic; a relinking of the latter to a plausible redistributive system; and a determination to ensure that everyone has access to education, health services and access to Justice. All these things are within our reach.
