Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a pervasive issue in Uganda, affecting women, girls, and marginalized groups. At ELOI Ministries, we are dedicated to creating a society where everyone can live free from fear and violence.
The Reality of GBV in Uganda
According to recent statistics, nearly 56% of Ugandan women have experienced some form of violence in their lifetime. From domestic abuse to sexual harassment, these acts of violence not only harm individuals but also perpetuate cycles of poverty and inequality.
Our Justice Programs
- Legal Support: We partner with local lawyers to provide free legal aid to survivors of GBV, helping them navigate the justice system.
- Awareness Campaigns: Through radio shows, community dialogues, and social media, we raise awareness about the rights of women and the importance of reporting abuse.
- Safe Spaces: We’ve established safe houses where survivors can seek refuge and receive counseling and medical care.
A Survivor’s Journey
Grace, a 32-year-old teacher from Kampala, was trapped in an abusive marriage for years. With the help of ELOI Ministries, she accessed legal support and counseling, eventually gaining custody of her children and starting a new life. Stories like Grace’s remind us why this work is so vital.
