Partnership is the heartbeat of effective development. No single organization can solve the healthcare crisis of a nation alone. This belief is what led ELOI Ministries to enter into a strategic partnership with Buwenge Hospital back in 2013. Now, over a decade later, we reflect on how this collaboration has changed the landscape of health in the region.
Why Buwenge? Located in the Jinja District, Buwenge Hospital serves a catchment area that is often underserved by larger, central medical facilities. The needs here are diverse—ranging from emergency obstetric care to malaria treatment and chronic disease management. In 2013, we saw an opportunity not to reinvent the wheel, but to strengthen an existing institution. Our aim was to “facilitate health care,” which means identifying gaps and filling them with resources, personnel support, and outreach capability.
Bridging the Gap Between Hospital and Home A hospital building is useless if people cannot reach it or afford it. ELOIM acts as the bridge.
- Outreach Camps: We bring the expertise of Buwenge’s medical professionals out of the clinic and into the villages. These mobile medical care missions allow us to treat conditions before they become emergencies.
- Maternal Health Focus: Together, we have placed a massive emphasis on safe deliveries. We want to ensure that every mother in our operational area has access to skilled birth attendants.
The Next Chapter As we look to the future, this partnership remains vital. We are constantly assessing new challenges, such as the rise of non-communicable diseases and the impacts of climate change on public health. This is not just about medicine; it is about dignity. It is about ensuring that a farmer in a remote village receives the same quality of care and compassion as anyone else. Together with Buwenge Hospital, we are keeping that promise.
