Introduction: The Changing Skies Over Uganda Here in Uganda, late March traditionally signals the arrival of the rains. But in recent years, what used to be a predictable and welcome season for our communities has become a source of profound vulnerability. Uganda faces significant climate change challenges. We are no longer dealing with standard seasonal shifts; we are dealing with highly unpredictable rainfall and extreme weather. For communities that rely heavily on the land, this is a crisis that threatens their very survival.
The Threat to Vital Ecosystems At ELOIM, we recognize that you cannot separate human well-being from environmental health. With vital ecosystems under threat, we face significant challenges from climate change that necessitate urgent and effective mitigation strategies.
- The Ripple Effect: When extreme weather destroys a harvest, it doesn’t just impact food supply. It impacts a family’s ability to pay school fees, access healthcare, and maintain basic nutrition.
- Our Mitigation Focus: We work directly with communities to promote sustainability. By addressing the impacts of climate change through education and localized mitigation strategies, we aim to protect both the environment and the vulnerable populations who depend on it.
Conclusion: A Sustainable Future for the African Child Our vision is “Hope for an African Child.” That hope must include a habitable, sustainable environment. ELOIM remains committed to working alongside Ugandan communities to ensure that our vital ecosystems are preserved and that our people are equipped to navigate the realities of extreme weather.
