In 2026, health and the environment are two sides of the same coin. With shifting rainfall patterns affecting nutrition and increasing the risk of waterborne diseases, ELOIM is adapting its health outreach to be “climate-smart.”
Our maternal and HIV/AIDS programs are evolving to include:
- Nutritional Resilience: We are teaching the families of our sponsored children how to maintain “kitchen gardens” with drought-resistant vegetables to combat stunting and wasting during dry spells.
- Strengthening Community Surveillance: Working with local leaders to identify health trends early. As temperatures rise, so do risks for malaria and other illnesses; our volunteers are the first line of defense.
- Maternal Care in Every Weather: Ensuring that expectant mothers have access to prenatal care regardless of seasonal floods or droughts. We continue to break the silence on HIV, ensuring that health remains a priority even when the environment is unpredictable.
