Introduction: Never Forget, Always Advocate
On April 7th, we joined the world in reflecting on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. As a neighbor and a nation that has seen its own share of struggle, Uganda understands that peace is fragile and justice is the only anchor. At ELOIM, this week of reflection strengthens our resolve to protect the rights of every individual.
The Foundation of Access to Justice
Justice is not just about courts; it’s about preventing the marginalization that leads to conflict.
- Protecting the Vulnerable: Our work with youths and adults in police cells and remand homes is about ensuring that no one is “forgotten” by the system. Injustices often grow in the dark; by providing access to justice, we bring light to the most vulnerable.
- Building a Fairer Society: We advocate for a world where everyone is treated fairly, regardless of their background or religious affiliation. Reflection leads to action, and our action is to ensure that the human rights of every African child are fiercely defended.
Conclusion: Peace Through Justice
As we look back at the lessons of history, we commit ourselves to the future. A vibrant Uganda is one where justice is accessible to all, ensuring that the peace we enjoy today is secured for the generations to come.
