The Reality of UPE: Why We Have Sponsored 516 Children

Introduction: The Gap in Universal Education The Ugandan government’s introduction of Universal Primary and Secondary Education (UPE, USE) was a monumental step forward. However, the reality on the ground is that “universal” does not always mean “accessible.” Hidden costs—such as uniforms, scholastic materials, and exam fees—keep thousands of brilliant children locked out of the classroom.

Filling the Void: The ELOIM Bursary Scheme At ELOIM, we refuse to let a child’s future be dictated by their guardian’s extreme poverty.

  • By the Numbers: We are proud to report that we have officially sponsored a total of 308 girls and 208 boys (516 children in total). We empower them to go to school and attain primary, secondary, and vocational skills education.
  • School Outreach: Our work does not stop at writing a check for school fees. Through our school outreach programs, we partner with educational institutions to provide ongoing resources, mentorship, and support for our students, ensuring they actually thrive once they are in the classroom.

Conclusion: Building the ELOI Junior School To further bridge this gap, we are actively developing the ELOI Junior School Project. This school will offer classes from kindergarten through secondary school, ensuring that students have a permanent, safe, and fully resourced environment to learn. We are committed to continuing this work in the same spirit until every child has the hope of an education.
