Beyond HIV: Maternal Health and Nutrition at Buwenge Hospital

Uganda faces complex health issues, from high HIV/AIDS prevalence to malnutrition. Through our partnership with Buwenge Hospital in Jinja District, ELOIM takes a comprehensive approach, recognizing that a healthy community starts with its most vulnerable members: mothers and children.

Focusing on the Start of Life

While fighting HIV/AIDS remains a critical focus—through public health education, prevention campaigns, and support—we are strategically prioritizing Maternal and Child Health:

  • Pre-Natal Care: Access to quality care during pregnancy dramatically reduces complications and mortality rates for both mother and child. We support the provision of essential check-ups and counseling services.
  • Nutritional Education: Malnutrition is a silent killer and a major obstacle to a child’s cognitive development. We run outreach programs that educate expectant and new mothers on best practices for infant and young child feeding, combating stunting and wasting.
  • Health Promotion: The hospital acts as a community hub for preventive health, offering workshops that empower women to manage their family’s health proactively, reducing the need for costly curative care.

Our goal is simple: to ensure every mother and child in the community has access to quality health services, guaranteeing the healthiest possible start in life and contributing to the social and economic vitality of the community.
